Well, we received the syllabus today, but thank goodness that we did not go through it word for word. I could not have handled hearing one more procedure.
Today, Mrs. Kiel began with a minute read and started Tuesday's with Morrie. She read for about 8-10 minues and then we all participated in an ice breaker. I know another one! After we finished, Mrs. Kiel shared the classes results from People Non-Bingo.

Today we had a sub. He passed out an Autobiography assignment that Mrs. Kiel assigned for us. It was a pretty boring day. The class sat in silence and worked diligently on thier rough drafts.
We also ha d a journal entry #2. The topic was "I am the person who..."
That pretty much sums up our class that day.

Friday the 14th

Today we turned in our Autobiography assignment that recieved from the sub. Then Mrs. Kiel layed out 3 worksheets for us to do. She passed the first one out and then when we finished we would grab the next one. But we did not finish and we will continuiong working on them Monday the 17th. The worksheets are easy and ask you personal questions. This is all we did today. We did not read Tuesdays with Morrie either.

P.s Mrs. Kiel asked the seniors to bring in something from thier senior pictures if they did not take them at Sieloft but you can ask her about that on Monday.

On Friday, October 5, Mrs. Kiel started out the hour by giving each student a notecard with a colored dot on it. She then read some of Tuesdays With Morrie. After reading, the class got into five different groups which were based on the color of the dot on your notecard. We then did an activity that involved answering questions about paradigm shifts and Radio. We finished this activity by the end of the hour and there were not any assignments or handouts.

Today was a very easy day. Leah, Nikki and James were absent. After taking attendance Mrs. Kiel told us that if we have a good grade and our parents are coming to Parent/Teacher Conferences, then their limit is 5 minutes. After the students read "The Personal Bank Account" chapter in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens book. While reading Mrs. Kiel called us up to show us our grades.

The students listened and particpated in the discussion. After the slide show we had the rest of the hour to either go through the rest of the slide show or simply do something else.

Today was a laid back day, We didn't have a journal and were given one assignment which was to make a visual representation of Habit 1-Be Proactive. Before Mrs. Kiel gave us our assignment everyone was supposed to finish up reading chapter one and if you were already finished you were to do other homework and work silently. Then we got our assignment. Were in the computer lab Monday and Tuesday. NO WRITING was the only rule emphasized for project.

Today in Motivational Psychology Mrs. Kiel talked for the first five minutes or so of class telling us about how to write our papers about things that make us who we are, not just our favorite colors and where we were born. The rest of the hour we had to ourselves to work on our papers because they are due at the beginning of the hour tomorrow(Wednesday 1/30/08)

Today in Motivattional Psychology we handed in our biography papers at the beginning of the hour. Mrs. Kiel assigned Journal Entry #2 - If I could change anything it would be (blank). Why? We worked on the journal for about 5 minutes. After the journal Mrs. Kiel read a shor story from Chicken Noodle Soup for the Teenage Soul. Mrs. Kiel assigned a worksheet entitled, "What Motivates You." She explained how to do the assignment and gave us the rest of the hour to work on it. "What Motivates You" is due 1/31/08

That is what went down on Wednesday.

Thursday, January 31st

The class started out with Mrs. Kiel making the comment, "If your goal is to have a snow day tomorrow, then you have a good chance of reaching your goal." This started off the class on a good note, having everyone hope for no school tomorrow. Mrs. Kiel read aloud a poem from the front of the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. After she read the poem, we were told to read chapter one in the book, named Get in the Habit. When we were done reading that Mrs. Kiel told us to choose the one thing that best motivates you and represents who you are, and write a one page summary on it, which is due tomorrow along with our concept map. When the class seemed to be done reading, some humor was added to the class when Mrs. Kiel told us some funny stories about Homecoming, Snowcoming, and Prom. The class was ended when Mrs. Kiel told us all that on Monday and Tuesday of next week we were going to share with the class what motivates you. The good part about this is that you don't have to stand in front of the class if you don't want to, it only counts as extra credit.

Today in class, we had a class disscussion on the recent tragic event featuring four high school students form LCN.

Journal #8:

"In the wake of the tragic events (car accident with LCN students) the media and the community are suggesting that the driving age be made to 18. It is thought that brains are more developed and teens are less distractive. Do you support changing the driving age? Why/why not? Give reasons."

Today in class we had the day to read and highlight Habit #3 "Putting first things first". As you read we just highlighted things that stuck out to us, spoke to us or something that we agreed/disagreed with. At the end of the hour, if we finished reading, we were able to go get the Habit #3 work packet and began working on it. Tomorrow the highlighted reading of Habit #3 is due.

JOurnal #11: What do you beleive a "good listener" is? What does a "good listener" look like? What qualities do they possess that makes them a "good listener"? Who do you know that you would consider a "good listener"? What do they do that leads you to believe that?

Today we were split up into 5 groups and each group was assigned 1 of the 5 poor listening styles. We had 15 minutes to make up 2 skits on our listening style (1 negative and 1 positive). We then had to perform it and then the class decided which group was the best.
